Sheffield-Millennium Gallery-4

Muscles of the trunk and leg - 1510-1511 - probably the result of doing human dissections at the University of Pavia.  Among other things, Leonardo produced the first clinical description of cirhossis of the liver, as a result of his dissections.

En route back to the UK today.

No ordinary man, Our Leo.
Tom Wilson: Indeed not - and no one like him since!
i regret to say that my musculature (outwardly at least) looks nothing like shown here tongue but it is indeed amazing the knowledge gathered at that point of time.
Tom Wilson: Ah - but underneath the skin, Ayush... smile

This man is a mystery Tom, so talented in so many ways. It would be great to meet him today and see what he makes of everything.
Tom Wilson: As you say, an amazing man - imagine what he could have achieved today with all the advances in science, of which he knew nothing!

The accuracy of these sketches is amazing. This reminds me of the days I did my own butchering, when I wasted time dissecting in stead of just getting the butchering done. The difference? There is an expression that someone has butchered a job.
He surely must have been at dissections to get knowledge of this amount of detail.
Genius is a much overused word but he really was one
He did lots and lots of anatomy drawing.
