Verkiai palace

Verkiai Palace - the property was originally owned by the Grand Duke of Lithuania, but in 1780 it was taken over by the Bishop of Vilnius, who commissioned the building of this palace, consisting of two main buildings facing one another across a lawn and garden.  It is now occupied by the Institute of Botany of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences.

Joli bâtiment avec ces colonnes.
Tom Wilson: Merci, Martine
Very impressive!!
Tom Wilson: Especially so, when you realise that this is one of a pair of buildings!
Quite a place Tom.
Tom Wilson: Yes, a pity it isn't open to the public, judging by some of the interior pics I've seen online.

These places are put to good use Tom. It's grand architecture too
Tom Wilson: It certainly is! And, as you say, good that they have practical use.

I am not confident I could gallop my horse into that front entrance, Tom!
Tom Wilson: Oh, I'm sure a man of your talents could manage it easily, Ray smile
This is a very handsome building Tom
Tom Wilson: It is indeed - very good architecture, but, then, I guess nothing was too good for the bishop smile
It is a very royal looking type of building.
Tom Wilson: It is indeed - nothing's too good for the Bishop!
Giant erections aside, I suppose it would protect you from the rain while ringing the doorbell.
Tom Wilson: It would certainly do that! But, of course, you would be expected and a flunky would be there to open the door before you got out of your carriage smile

The columns make for a fitting entrance for a palace.
