photoblog image Lake Sartai, Dusetos, Lithuania

Lake Sartai, Dusetos, Lithuania

Lake Sartai is the fifth largest lake in Lithuania, but has the longest shoreline, at 79 kms.  It was formerly famous for the winter horse races that were run on the frozen lake - they are now run on a track on the shore for "safety reasons" - the result of climate change, perhaps?

I'll bring my kayak...
Tom Wilson: I'm sure you'd have a great time on Lithuania's lakes and rivers smile
Very pretty, isn't it!
There's no climate change!!!! smile
Tom Wilson: A lovely spot - Dusetos is Lithuania's smallest city - it actually has city status, with now only about 800 inhabitants!

I just can't begin to imagine horse racing on ice, Tom
Tom Wilson: Nor me! But, apparently, it's been going on for more than 100 years.
Ray's kayak would work a charm there, Tom. And yes,I'm afraid climate change is affecting everyone, near and far. (sigh)
Tom Wilson: Fortunately it doesn't yet seem to be affecting Lithuania's water resources.

This looks like a wonderful pace to walk around, Tom. Too bad for the horse races, that looks quite the spectacle.
Tom Wilson: A very pleasant spot. The horse races are still held, but on the shore.
C'est un très joli paysage.
Tom Wilson: C'est certainement!
Very nice scene Tom, I like all the grasses swaying in the breeze.
Tom Wilson: A lovely spot, Brian.
A grand place Tom.
Tom Wilson: Lithuania's lake district - without the mountains!
or health and safety who will probably decide soon that they will have to walk
