Hadrian isn't picking up :-)  The statues around the top of the baths are not Roman, but 19th century.  The baths originally had a roof - probably the largest roofed space in Roman Britain.

Now that is a serious set of legs.
Tom Wilson: He'd probably make a good biker smile
Les deux n'ont pas la même musculature.
Tom Wilson: C'est vrai, Martine!

The Roman Baths are a right old mix of excavated Roman footings and Victorian architecture.

This is a pleasing image
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Chris

Pleased you saw the Baths, Tom. Every other year I go there on 2 January when they open at 0930. Not another visitor to be seen - imagine!
Tom Wilson: We went at opening time, too - no queue, pre-booked, and perhaps only about 20 people in during the time we were there. I can imagine that it gets pretty crowded!
I've actually seen one (the statue)...but not the other, Tom. HA! Good juxtaposing.
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Ginnie

I love that the man sitting gives scale to this amazing statue.
Tom Wilson: There must be a dozen of such statues around the top of the baths.
A bit of Victorian "improvement"
Tom Wilson: Indeed - it works pretty well, however.

It made me laugh ...
Tom Wilson: I'm happy about that - we'll need all the laughs we can get in the coming years!
An amusing contrast, Tom! smile
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Martin.
I really like the photo for the colourful fellow in such drab surroundings.
Tom Wilson: You mean Hadrian I suppose, Mary smile
Hello dear, if you're looking for me I'm sitting next the big bloke with a skirt on.
Tom Wilson: smile smile
Nice catch!
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Elizabeth.

I would not have guessed that the statues were a later edition.
