Bath-Roman baths-spring overflow

As the Romans built it - the water still flows ultimately into the River Avon, a short distance away, through the pipes the Romans put down.

it's amazing to think of it

beautifully photographed
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Sherri - even more amazing is that the various Roman mechanisms for channelling the water are still in use and the water is heating the Abbey!
Thats another thing they did for us....
Tom Wilson: Yes - washing was not universal in Britain at the time smile
Pretty amazing, isn't it!
Tom Wilson: Stunning!
C'est très intéressant !

What a fine shot!

It also heats a number of buildings, including the Abbey, en route
Tom Wilson: Fantastic - the cost/benefit equation must be amazing!
They could not have imagined the modern world the these have survived into
Tom Wilson: They'd be asking, "Where did it all go wrong?"

I was always amazed at this hot water coming from the ground.
Tom Wilson: The only one in Britain, I understand.
Built to last I would think.
Tom Wilson: It certainly was, and it certainly has!
i have had a chance to visit the River Avon at the canal locks Tom... and the Roman Baths in the city... it is amazing what the Romans had built that are still in use today....petersmile
I did not realize all this time that the baths were heated.
