Bath-Holburne Museum

The Holburne Museum was originally the Sydney Hotel, designed by Charles Harcourt Masters, and built between 1796 and 1799. It was converted to use as a museum in 1916, to house the collection of Sir Thomas William Holburne, which was bequeathed to the city of Bath by his sister Mary Anne Barbara Holburne.  To Sir Thomas's more than 4,000 objects, more than 2,500 have now been added.

When I was young this was quite a mystical place to visit.simce the University took it over it has become more ‘main stream’. I don’t like the cafe they have bolted onto the rear of the building.
Tom Wilson: I can imagine, Chad - at least the extension doesn't spoil this view, and I guess the cafe brings in needed funds.
A handsome place Tom.
Tom Wilson: Yes, a very fine building.
Very fine looking building.
Tom Wilson: It's a bit fake, of course smile The true country house of the time would probably have steps on either side of the entrance leading up to the entrance proper on the first floor smile

it's beautiful
Tom Wilson: Very much of its time, like the country houses of the nobility.
