Wedding dance

By Peter Brueghel the Younger.  If you think you have seen this somewhere other than the museum in Bath, you are right, since Brueghel and his workshop produced more than 100 copies of it!

Dancing to bagpipe music...that must be a challenge! smile
Tom Wilson: Well, these aren't the Scottish highland pipes, Ray, and when you see Susana Seivane playing the Galician pipes (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vUhPkGYuj8&list=PLC0Nw2XOS_Zuh1H8hYDDdSVskoO3Xalx9) or Kathleen Tickell on the Northumbrian small pipes (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HiuMwskhsGk) you might have a different idea!
This one looks even more like the S.C meet up Tom ! smile
Tom Wilson: I don't recall such jollity at either of the two I've been to, Frank smile
And then there's the minions... smile
Tom Wilson: Just a few - can't do without them!
Joli tableau de cette fête.
Tom Wilson: Oui, une peinture très célèbre.

Wouldn't it be great if Bruegel could paint a modern scene like this, Tom
Tom Wilson: I suspect that modern dress is less picturesque!

Nothing changes in the human spirit. This could have been taken from life yesterday..
Tom Wilson: The tradition knees-up never dies smile

Photography freed painters from the burden of recording people and day to day activities. Once photography was introduced we saw great developments in painting. Thank goodness painters were able to give us views of every day life such as this by a great Flemish painter.
Tom Wilson: Absolutely, Chad.
His pictures are some of the most instantly recognisable, full of life and a lot of humour
Tom Wilson: And he was very successful!

That is some party here, Tom. Famous and so recognizable. Love it. I like what Chad is mentioning.
Tom Wilson: Great jollity expressed! No doubt there were a few sore head the morning after smile
One of the most famous painters and paintings in the world.
Tom Wilson: Indeed it is - and no wonder when he produced more than 100 copies!

a right old knees up by the looks of it
Tom Wilson: Indeed it is!
There's so much to look at in this very fine picture.
Tom Wilson: It's always the case with Brueghel's pics smile
Full of life and humour, Tom smile
Tom Wilson: Indeed it is - enjoying themselves in what must have been quite hard times.
