photoblog image Woman reading

Woman reading

The Holburne Museum had an exhibition by Edouard Vuiliard (1868-1940) - I found this one of the most appealing paintings. It is entitled "Woman Reading in the Reeds, Saint-Jacut-de-la-mer".  Why anyone would seek out a reed bed in which to do their reading is a bit of a mystery!

Ray was a little doubtful about dancing to bagpipes - yesterday's pic - so I sent him a link to videos by Susana Seivane, the Galician piper and Kathleen Tickell - the Duke of Northumberland's piper.  Here's a different one of Seivane.

What a fine artwork!
Tom Wilson: Yes, it was the painting I liked most.
Joli tableau, j'aime beaucoup son style.
Tom Wilson: Merci, Martine
I agree with you as to its appeal Tom.
Tom Wilson: Yes, a bit mysterious smile

I suspect this might be a slightly feeble attempt at a pun Tom, reading in the reeds. However it is a charming image
Tom Wilson: I did wonder about that myself, Chris - reading in a reed bed - reading in bed smile
Wow can she play!!
Tom Wilson: She's probably the leading virtuoso on the Galician pipes - the gaita - comes from a family of bagpipe players.

what a pleasant scene
Tom Wilson: Very appealing - but I wonder how comfortable smile
I think you would be reading in the reeds to hide. Some women had to hide to get away.

We have a very popular band to dance to that features the bagpipes:

Charming
It is rather a nice painting though. The video is great especially when the drums come in, very much like a pop concert.

Chris might be right, a pun, the ambiance might emphasise the loneliness and intimacy while the lady is escaping from the daiy life. I like this image very much, typically French.
