Sienna-flagbearer

Before the Palio there is a costume parade through the city, known as the Corteo Storico - this gent obviously takes his role seriously :-)

He has been to drama school from the look of him Tom
Tom Wilson: Just the natural Italian feel for the theatrical!

What a fine costume!
Tom Wilson: Do you fancy yourself in that? smile
i am intrigued with the double headed eagle-it is more of a German emblem in its origin and usage, isn't it, Tom?
Tom Wilson: He represents the Aquila cortada - the title was bestowed on the district by the Hapsburg Emperor Charles V - hence the double-headed eagle.
No smiling allowed.
Tom Wilson: It's all very serious stuff - the reputation of the cortada is at stake!
I guess the place must be heaving with people for this event,
Tom Wilson: It certainly is, Brian - you can hardly move!
