"Impressive" seems a better descriptor than "beautiful", Tom.
Tom Wilson: That certainly is the word!
Elle est magnifique !
Tom Wilson: Certainement!

It looks ornate and glorious Tom
Tom Wilson: A beautiful facade, Chris.
No expense spared when they built this Tom
Tom Wilson: You got that in one, Bill.

So few visitors. I think that the place would have been crammed, this past summer.

After my last visit to Europe, I left with the impression that there is too much money available in Western and Far Eastern countries. All places just run-over by tourists.
Tom Wilson: As this was the day of the Palio I think everyone was closer to the Campo and the parade. You are certainly right about there being too much money - and, of course, too cheap flights and holidays!

I love the contrasting styles of Sienna and Florence from the renaissance period. Sienna had its own Giotto, though I can’t remember his name. Their style was influenced by Bysantine art and, if it wasn’t for the plague that decimated them, art history could have been slightly different.
Tom Wilson: They are certainly very different cities - Siena is much more cohesive, I think. And smaller, of course.
I like the relaxed feeling.
Tom Wilson: That's the Italian style smile
Certainly a magnificent building.
Tom Wilson: Rather beautiful, I think.
Magnificent, Tom!
Tom Wilson: It certainly is, Martin.

this one also has that vintage film appeal
I loved my short visit to Siena... this Cathedral is one reason. I'm not a huge fan of Gothic interiors or even church interiors - but this one fascinated me!
