West Edmonton Mall-1

A change of scene - this is the West Edmonton Mall, at the time of my visit (1986) it was the biggest shopping mall in the world by area, losing its title in 2004 to the Dubai Shopping Mall.  It remains the biggest in North America with  more than 800 stores, two hotels, and 24,000 employees. This roller coaster - I assume the biggest indoor roller coaster in the world! - occupies part of the entertainment area.  Depending on the season it can get up to 200,000 visitors a day - and they fly in from all over the world.  It occupies 49 hectares (5,300,000 sq ft) the Dubai Mall covers 5.9 million square feet (55 ha).

Phew!
Tom Wilson: Yup!
Je ne monterai certainement pas dedans.
Tom Wilson: Ni moi, Martine!
I'd love to ride that roller coaster!
Tom Wilson: Not something I've ever done, or would wish to!
Hell on earth Tom smile
Tom Wilson: Pretty close, Frank!

This is what money can do Tom, turn the established way of things upside down..
Tom Wilson: Indeed!
A dinosaur from the past whose days may well be numbered
Tom Wilson: Given the winters in Edmonton, I suspect it will suvive!

When I was young I enjoyed this sort of thing, but not anymore, not for a long time.
Tom Wilson: Not for me at any time, Chad.
They have a pool and skating arena too.
Tom Wilson: Yes, indeed - and a submarine!
What a place to visit, I wonder what it is like all these years later?
Tom Wilson: Pretty much the same, I believe - Edmonton's winters will keep it going: it can be -20C in January! And the lowest temperature recorded was -49.4!
