photoblog image Porch of the maidens.

Porch of the maidens.

A feature of the Erechtheum on the Acropolis, facing the Parthenon, Athens. The statues are replicas - four of them in a museum in Athens, one was stolen by the vandal, Lord Elgin, and is now in the British Museum and he managed to destroy the sixth when he tried to remove it.

Ah.. so this would have been part of the Elgin marbles; well I never. I never realised until now as to their origin. What a cracking view they have.
Fine shot Tom, the history for us Brits is less exciting.
I have been here and loved it, nice composed shot Tom.smile
Beauty of a sky, too.

Nice shot, Tom!
I find Greek history fascinating..hard to imagine what it was like in those days gone-by
