photoblog image On the quayside

On the quayside

I'm not sure what the public art is supposed to represent here! He seems to be examining the contents of a shell of some kind.  The buildings behind are part of the University of Zadar, where the conference I attended was held.

Well whatever, I like it, Tom.
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Frank. It's a lovely location!
I like how the viewer's eyes look right at the statue... move up the building... slide back down to view the dog and the dog walker. Niiiice.
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Jacquelyn - glad you like it.
I quite like this perspective with that sculpture in the foreground Tom!
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Richard

He is holding a hedgehog upside down, Tom, and trying to work out if it is a gal or a bloke.
Tom Wilson: You might be right, Ray - he was a zoologist, but Chris tells me it is a conch shell smile

I thought:
"Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him, Horatio, a fellow of infinite
jest, of most excellent fancy. He hath bore me on his back a
thousand times, and now how abhorr'd in my imagination it is!
My gorge rises at it."

Hamlet Act 5, scene 1
Tom Wilson: Not a skull but a shell - but then, a skull is a kind of shell, isn't it? smile

A statue of Croatian zoologist Spiro Brusina, by the University of Zadar. So I found out with the help of Google Tom
Tom Wilson: Thanks for that, Chris.
He could well be contemplating the nature of reality Tom, I could lend him a good book.
Tom Wilson: I suspect that he had a few good books of his own, Chad smile
Being observant is a good subject. Important especially in the growing mind.
Tom Wilson: It's an interesting sculpture.
A very nice looking bronze so well situated.
Tom Wilson: A wonderful spot for the statue and the university!
It is still an interesting sculpture Tom.
Tom Wilson: It is indeed, Brian - I have a close-up I'll show later.
Sometimes he just sits and thinks and sometimes he just sits
Tom Wilson: And how do we tell the difference?
i think the dog up front has demonstrated moments ago what he thought of this public art work, Tom!
Tom Wilson: Well, some dog has done so, Ayush!
Nice sculpture...
Tom Wilson: I'll show a close up some time.

"Sometimes I sit and think. Sometimes I just sit."
