Spiro Brusina and his conch shell

The Croatian zoologist, an expert on molluscs, after whom a few are named. An interesting kind of immortality - having your name attached to a snail! :-)

Could be worse, Tom!
Tom Wilson: Indeed!
I can think of worse things....I think...We have a friend who has a species of Wood rat named after him...smile
Tom Wilson: And of course there are others whose names are attached to worms and fleas smile
I quite like this hommage Tom!
Tom Wilson: It's quite a good sculpture, I think.

The snails will probably last beyond the span of man Tom, so it is immortality..
Tom Wilson: That's highly likely, Chris - a pity they don't know who they are named after smile

We have a snail expert in our Natural History Society, Tom - there may be more about than we realise
Tom Wilson: Oh, I'm sure there are lots of them about - enough to have a scientific society: http://malacsoc.org.uk/
I suppose it's better than none at all Tom. Love the angle that you have taken this.
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Chad - I've never thought that immortality was worth much if you were dead smile
His ear is well rubbed.
Tom Wilson: So it is!
My word it must have been a big mollusc.
Tom Wilson: Apparently conch can weigh up to ten pounds and more!
He does appear captivated by them here Tom
Tom Wilson: Indeed, it's a pretty good sculpture, I think.
