photoblog image A contrast in styles

A contrast in styles

In Borås, on the left, a recently completed block of shops, car park and, on the top, two floors of apartments, and on the right a row of restaurants, with apartments above, dating, I guess, from the 1920s. With the River Viskan in the foreground.

i am not sure if the balconies in the middle, hemmed in from sides, are any effective at all, Tom.
Tom Wilson: Not my idea of fun, Ayush!
Its an attractive place Tom.
Tom Wilson: It's a nice little town (a city in Swedish terms!) I enjoy going there.

The scale of the grey building is rather overwhelming but I'm sure it's of a very high standard Tom
Tom Wilson: I'm sure it will be, Chris - Swedish building standards are way ahead of the UK!
The contrast is very tastefully done,Tom, and pleasing to the eye.
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Ginnie

I love the contrast here, Tom. Sometimes I wonder if town developers "see" the result before they start building.... (money against beauty)
Tom Wilson: I suspect that the older building has a preservation order on it! And he Swedes were way ahead of everybody in legal preservation of the cultural heritage - the first act preserving prehistoric monuments dates from the 17th century!

Can’t fail to prefer the small low rise building here.
Tom Wilson: No question about that!
The building based on the look of an egg box has far less appeal than its neighbour
Tom Wilson: It does indeed - one looks human, the other alien!

I like the contrast of old and new. The woman seems to be waiting for you to take the picture, before continuing with her walk.
Tom Wilson: I think she's waiting for the dog, which is probably attracted by the ducks and pigeons on the riverbank.
I am not sure they look great beside each other but it is done.
Tom Wilson: We can only be thankful that the old one is saved!
It goes without saying which are the most attractive buildings.
Tom Wilson: I know what gets my vote, Brian!
Old is best
Tom Wilson: I agree with that, Martin!
nicely framed to show the contrast of architecture from then to now Tom....petersmile

The bend in the canal makes this image special to me, Tom.
