It is wonderful, Tom. The French would have loved to play in those ramparts.
Tom Wilson: Well, Edward 1 built it, Ray, and he was Norman French descent smile
Un joli château avec toutes ces tours.
Tom Wilson: Merci, Martine
very nice view, Tom.are there people up there on the tower?
Tom Wilson: It is possible to get up to some of the towers, but what you see are bits of masonry, I think.
A great view Tom, not been there since I was a kid.
Tom Wilson: Worth another visit, Frank, when Elizabeth is over
Isn't it crazy to see that castle surrounded by the "little" houses!
Tom Wilson: Clustering close, for safety smile Although, probably not when it was built.

A grand and wonderful thing, dominating the town
Tom Wilson: It does indeed, Chris.
So I had to Google this to find out it's in Wales, Tom. Can you imagine living right next to that!
Tom Wilson: I went to a school that was just across the river from Durham Castle and the Cathedral, so it doesn't seem all that unusual smile

That looks like a very sturdy castle, Tom. I love the "two worlds" here. The houses, mostly white and the dark towers as the background.
Tom Wilson: Very sturdy indeed - but ruined inside.

It looks very well preserved Tom, perhaps it survived all the traumas that other castles suffered.
Tom Wilson: Not really, Chad - it is a ruin inside as you will see.
One of our first holidays was at Conwy...not the castle in a caravan.
Tom Wilson: I'm sure you took a look, Bill - and perhaps some pics?
Wonderful Tom! I visited as a child and still have memories of this place smile
Tom Wilson: Worth another visit, perhaps, Martin?

When someone writes Welsh names, I then tend to think they fell asleep on the keyboard. A busy design, like a sandcastle and it doesn't seem really big. The hill is higher than the castle and that is a tactical error.
Tom Wilson: Have you tried reading Georgian names smile It is really big, but foreshortened by the zoom - the hill is a good way away, with a tributary of the River Conwy between it and the hill - take a look at it on the satellite view of Google Maps.
Great shot Tom, I've not seen one from this angle before.
Tom Wilson: Plas Mawr is an early house in the town and it is possible to get to a tower top.
Goodness this is quite a view.
