At the Slyninkos water mill - easy to rock the baby!

do you mean the cradle is connected to the wind powered mechanism, Tom? that is ingenious, i think.
Tom Wilson: No, Ayush, I just meant that, suspended like that, it is easy to push!
Wonderful handwork!
Tom Wilson: Just a simple basket smile

Simple but effective..
Tom Wilson: Yes, indeed - peasant style, which, of course, is what it is.
Joli berceau.
Tom Wilson: C'est vrai, Martine!
I have a feeling that women throughout history have come up with untold ways to rock the baby, Tom. We'd probably be amazed.
Tom Wilson: That's certainly true, Ginnie.

How lovely the motion must be for a baby.
Tom Wilson: I imagine it would go off to sleep quickly.
The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world
Tom Wilson: So I've hear said, Bill smile - said, apparently by US poet William Ross Wallace, of whom I had never heard:

Blessings on the hand of women!
Angels guard its strength and grace,
In the palace, cottage, hovel,
Oh, no matter where the place;
Would that never storms assailed it,
Rainbows ever gently curled;
For the hand that rocks the cradle
Is the hand that rules the world.

In passing, you just bump it lightly and it will keep on rocking for some time. Mother can tend to flour being milled, while just moving it with her foot every now and then.
Tom Wilson: Exactly!
A knee or foot can rock the baby while hands are busy with other things.
Tom Wilson: Very simple, very effective smile
What a good idea.
