photoblog image Sheffield from the Gardens

Sheffield from the Gardens

Towards the bottom of that main pathway, this view appears - about a couple of hundred yards from the bottom exit from the Gardens.  The trees beyond are not part of the Gardens but are in Sheffield General Cemetery. I'll take a walk through that with the camera some time.

Tom Wilson: Views are all over the place, as a result of Sheffield being built on nine hills

It is a fine view from here, Tom.

Lets race our bikes to the bottom!
Tom Wilson: I'll let you lead, Ray smile
Its a grand view Tom...
Tom Wilson: Sheffield's nine hills make it the most topographically interesting in the country, I think, Frank.

You have made Sheffield look like an offshoot of the Garden of Paradise Tom!
Tom Wilson: Well, it claims to be the greenest in Europe! https://sheffieldnewsroom.co.uk/news/trees-and-woodlands-plan/

It looks a very green city, Tom
Tom Wilson: Hope you've looked back to the start of the series, Lisl - since it was your idea smile Yes, Sheffield is one of the greenest cities in Europe, and the greenest in England, with 4.5 million trees - see https://sheffieldnewsroom.co.uk/news/trees-and-woodlands-plan/
One legacy from Victorian times is the great parks they created in so many of our cities
Tom Wilson: Indeed, Bill - Sheffield has an amazing amount of greenery - https://sheffieldnewsroom.co.uk/news/trees-and-woodlands-plan/

Sheffield looks as if it might be a sleepy small town in a rural setting from this angle Tom.
Tom Wilson: Well, in spite of it being the sixth biggest city, it still feels like a small market town - mainly because it grew by taking in surrounding villages, all of which keep their shopping areas and so on. The centre is much as it was at the beginning of the last century - apart from the bombing.
So much greenery..........a lovely view, Tom smile
Tom Wilson: Claims to be the greenest is Europe, Martin, with 4.5 million trees smile
Hills and vales. Very pretty.
Tom Wilson: Nine hills gives a lot of vales smile

Very urban. I can take you places in Pretoria that look a lot the same. I also like to take the camera to cemeteries.
Tom Wilson: I had been hoping to get to Pretoria this year for a conference, but Covid put and end to that prospect! Now I'm appearing courtesy of Zoom smile
A fine view out across the city Tom.
Tom Wilson: Fine views are a feature of Sheffield, Brian smile
